Internet-Based Medicare Enrollment

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has established an internet-based Medicare provider/supplier enrollment process, known as Internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain & Ownership System (PECOS). This new enrollment process will allow physicians and non-physician practitioners (except suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies) the option of enrolling, making a change in their Medicare enrollment information, or tracking the status of their Medicare enrollment applications throughout the enrollment process.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

The Medicare prescription drug plan finder is now available on www.medicare.gov. The drug plan finder allows users to determine their current coverage and make a side-by-side comparison of plans based on cost, coverage, and convenience. The plan finder will show a list of drug plans in an area, sorted by the lowest total cost for the prescription drugs the beneficiary takes. In addition, users will be able to narrow the choices based on deductible, premium, the sponsor of the plan, or availability of mail order. The plan finder will display the coverage each plan offers and provides personalized information on each plan. The plan finder can also identify plans that are accepted by preferred and nearby pharmacies, and plans that provide mail-order prescriptions.
